What is Far Infrared?

Far infrared light is a light wave on the electromagnetic spectrum that is invisible to the naked eye. Only a small percentage of all sunlight is visible and less than 2% of that is infrared… that’s the good stuff.

Using iHealth Far infrared Sauna is like getting a dose of health-giving sunlight, without the ultraviolet light that burns your skin and may cause cancer.

We feel infrared light as heat. Infrared works by heating the body directly, warming us safely to elevate cardiovascular activity and remove heavy metals and toxins through our sweat.

Infrared sauna is different to steam or hot rock saunas. It heats the body at a more comfortable temperature (40 to 70C) without filling our lungs with hot steam that can often be up to 90C.

Far Infrared warms the body deeply from within, so a lower, less humid and more comfortable temperature is needed to achieve a good result.

How to Prepare for a Sauna

If it is your first sauna experience, try to arrive 5-10 mins early so we have the opportunity to welcome you and talk you through your first session. It is important to make sure you are well hydrated before and after any sauna session for maximum benefit and detoxification. An hour before your sauna try to drink at least 500mls of good quality filtered water.

If you can, limit the number of personal care products you put on before a session. Clean skin will make it easier for your body to cleanse and clear out all the toxins and impurities. Feel free to bring some reading material to enjoy during your session. Be prepared to get hot, sweaty and enjoy some deep cleansing relaxation.

 After Your Sauna

Brush your skin, including the face and scalp, with a body brush or loafer, if you have one. If it is possible to shower, do so as soon as you get out in order to wash off any lingering toxins. Ideally, the shower should be cool to warm but preferably not hot (if you can’t shower, just wipe yourself down with a wet towel).

Ideally, avoid using any soap, shampoo or moisturiser after your sauna as it can block up the lovely open pores of the skin and stop the past-sauna detox effect. Drink another 500ml of water over the next 10-30 minutes. Resting for 10-30 minutes after your sauna is ideal. It helps transition the body back to homeostasis (balance) and decreases the chance of light-headedness or fatigue later in the day.

Is it Safe?

All our towels and robes are only used once. The Far Infrared light creates a naturally sterile environment, killing 99% of bacteria and airborne germs and viruses. Many medical devices and surgical equipment’s are sterilised using Infrared light.

Far infrared is a naturally occurring output from the sun, but without any of the harmful UV rays, so it will not burn the skin. It contains all the benefits of natural sunlight without any of the dangerous effects of solar radiation. In fact, infrared heat is used in hospitals to warm newborn babies, in burns units to accelerate healing and in physiotherapy as red heat lamps to treat injuries
